Louis Pasteur’s name may be associated with pasteurisation and vaccination against rabies, but the exhibition Louis Pasteur, the art of science invites you to discover lesser-known facets of his scientific career: the attention Pasteur paid to the arts and artists, from his own youthful practice, developing invaluable powers of observation, to the courses he gave at the École des Beaux-arts, which made him a pioneer in preventive conservation.
Louis Pasteur’s (1822-1895) career began in 1847, but his most renowned works were carried out during the Belle Époque, under the Third Republic. They were made possible by a succession of research projects carried out with a curious and universalist vision, applied to a wide range of subjects, from spontaneous generation to medical hygiene and the conservation of works of art.
