From 05/03/2022 to 20/11/2022
In 2022, the Villa du Temps retrouvé is paying tribute to Gustave Eiffel, the engineer-constructor, visionary scientist and author of the famous tower that bears his name.
This exhibition allows you to discover Gustave Eiffel through his major works and his participation in the Expositions Universelles (World’s Fair), which presented for the first time the Eiffel Tower. Bold, curious, a visionary and a spearhead in metal construction, Gustave Eiffel embodies the spirit of optimism and innovation that carried the Belle Époque.
Born in 1832, Gustave Eiffel embodied the typical figure of the engineer-builder and achieved a career that was both exemplary and extraordinary thanks to his incomparable qualities as an organizer, a leader capable of surrounding himself with the best people and his visionary genius.
Inspired by the same curiosity and the same enthusiasm that crossed the century, Gustave Eiffel distinguished himself in two types of careers: that of a builder and company director who responded to numerous orders for the construction of metal structures across France, as well as that of a scientist with a passion for meteorology, radiotelegraphy and aerodynamics.
Through his constructions and scientific research, Gustave Eiffel participated in the industrial boldness and the breath of optimism and innovation that shaped the Belle Époque.
This exhibition was made possible with the support of the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris, the Cité de l’Architecture, La Monnaie de Paris, the Musée départemental Albert Kahn and the Archives départementales de l’Eure.
